Automation error when I click File menu and then New Client

Hi, When I try to create a New Client file, I am getting a Windows error -2147024770 Automation Error.  The specified module  could not be found.  What causes this and how do I fix it?  - Steve C.

Your Windows is misconfigured somehow.  That routine uses the FileSystemObject in scrrun.dll to determine if your defaults.dat file exists in the correct spot.  If the scrrun.dll file is missing entirely or not properly registered in Windows, then this error will occur.

To fix it, go under Explorer into Windows\System32.  Is the scrrun.dll file there?  If it is missing you will need to find it on the internet and install it and register it.  It should be built into Windows so if it's missing then someone deleted it or you have a spyware, AV program that misflagged it.

If the file is there, then try to re-register it.  To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. Open a Command Prompt (Start Menu --> Run --> COMMAND) and press ENTER
  2. Change directory to the WINDOWSSYSTEM: For NT/2000/XP systems, this is normally the C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32. For 95/98/Me systems, this is normally the C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  3. Type the following command: REGSVR32 SCRRUN.DLL    - and then press ENTER

You should see a successful confirmation message. If not, make sure you typed the command correctly and are located in the correct directory.

Then rerun the Retirement Savings Planner and try to do File New Client again.  The error should be gone.  If it is still there, then send in a support ticket.

The PDF file attached below shows a screen shot of the error and what it looks like to the user.
