Max Withdrawal Percent

Originally from ticket #14114.

Q: We are trying to understand the function of the “Max Withdrawal %” under the “Non-Qualified Tax-Deferred Investments” tab and more specifically the effect on assets. When we show 0% coming from these assets the graph seems to present a more favorable picture despite the fact that income does not appear to be distributed from those assets, and when we change the % withdrawal to 5%, the graph seems to indicate an earlier failure. It just doesn’t make sense.

A: OK you have the max withdrawal at zero.

For NQ the Max withdrawal % is the “max to withdraw”
So 10% means don’t pull out more than 10%.
Program may pull less if it’s not needed to fund the retirement.

But 0% means “don’t pull out anything… pull out zero”.

100% means “pull out as much as they need up to and including the full balance if necessary”.

I would agree 0% might be seen as meaning “don’t use any max cap”
but that’s not the way it is coded right now. Maybe we’ll change that
but for now set it to 100% to do what you want.
