Does Retirement View Auto Save the Data Files?

Question: Does RetirementView Automatically Save the Data File?

In the situation that your Windows Update is set to automatic updates in the middle of the night,  this will install the updates and then restart your computer regardless of what you have running.

In which case, if you have RetirementView running and had previously saved the file at all, it should be there and be fine. Then restarting the computer should not flush the file empty or with junk.

If the program CRASHES that is a different matter and the data file may indeed be corrupted.

Answer: Yes backups are made every time you change a file.

The program DOES do autosave every time you change a file.

But there is no database with a history table since these are just files.

So the Autosave is creating a new copy of the file.

These copies are saved in a folder called BACKUPS which is located at this Windows path:

\Documents\Torrid Technologies\Retirement Savings Planner\Client Files\Backups

(note that is one level down from the main Client Files folder)

I would not recommend File -> Open and going to backups though because then it

will default there on Open and you will get it all confused and mixed up, plus it will

then create a sub folder Backups to the Backups.

If you need to recover a file… use Windows File Explorer to go into the folder

tree into backups.  Copy the file(s) you need… then go up one level to Client Files

and paste them there.  THEN you can use Open Client in the program to open the backup.
