2013 Version - Bug Fixes and Issues list

"2013.5 - RB" is latest release of the Native Mac version

If you don't have the latest version, you can install it from here.

REMAINING KNOWN ISSUES: Here is a running list of issues in 2013 latest release.  If you have found an issue not on this list, please post a message or email giving details about it:

  1. Built-in Social Security estimate is not activating even when you have job income. We are still working on the built-in estimate.  Until it's done you have to hand enter an estimate. Getting the number from your SSA estimate is more accurate anyway. (Ed Schaider)  ALso if you didn't know this and click to use the built-in estimate and then click to not use it, one user reported that the plan was different than before clicking. For now just dont use this feature.
  2. On File menu, the Most Recently Used File list (MRU list) on Windows does not behave properly.  Do not use this feature until it is fixed.

2013.6 FIXED ISSUES: Here are the items FIXED or ADDED in this version:

  1. PRO: Spouse Retirement Age was getting set to Client Age instead of value in file in some cases.  This bug is now fixed.
  2. ALL: On print out Personal Info & Assumptions page, the non-qualified tax-deferred investments were NOT getting added to the tax-deferred summary on the print out.  This is now fixed.
  3. PRO: You can now set the default values on every input and have a new client file start off with those values.  Previously you could not set the spouse default values.  Now you can set all of them.

2013.5 FIXED ISSUES: Here are the items FIXED or ADDED in this version:

  1. ALL: If you maximized the app and went into some of the text fields like current balance, then font size would grow bigger and bigger each time you entered it.  This code has been removed. (thanks Nick Seltun)
  2. ALL: Effective Tax Rate was not being calculated when you changed Fed Tax Rate or State local tax rate.  This now works.

2013.4 FIXED ISSUES: Here are the items FIXED or ADDED in this version:

  1. PRO: Data issues in Pro version related to file naming.  If you create a new file with name of existing file, it would attach to existing file and add another set of objects.  This is now fixed.
  2. PRO: Objects on secondary screens were remaining in memory even though client file was closed.  Thus they would affect calculations in the next file opened.  This is fixed.

2013.3 FIXED ISSUES: Here are the items FIXED or ADDED in this version:

  1. Added "Gross" or "Net" to Social Security and Pension columns on the Simple Spreadsheet based on whether Settings - Taxes has the boxes checked or not.  These also are on the printout of the Spreadsheet now as well. (thanks Doug Bartol) (2013.3c).
  2. PRO: the Client - Save As function is throwing a File Open dialog instead of Save As... THis is now fixed!
  3. Default Descriptions on Investments, Cash Infusions, and Special Expenses should now be loading properly (2013.3c).
  4. Enhancement: Added a new setting under Spreadsheet called "Show Simple Spreadsheet" that you can access with Command-R.  This will toggle to a duplicate of the spreadsheet that is in the printed report... just 10 or 11 columns (depending on whether there is a spouse).  The nice thing about this is if you maximize the screen on this simple spreadsheet... you will see the font size and row sizes increased in the simple spreadsheet so that it is MUCH MORE READABLE on a big monitor (2013.3c).
  5. Made additional adjustments to font sizes and button font sizes at various monitor resolution settings (2013.3c).
  6. All: Print Detailed Report has first column as Age but data showed the Year.  We changed it to show the primary person's age, that is the person on the 1st tab (2013.3d).
  7. All: Print Detailed Report - Spreadsheet printout printed a bunch of rows past the End Illustration Age, and those rows contained all zeroes.  Those rows have been removed and don't print (2013.3d).
  8. Pro: Windows version - Print Detailed Report on Cover page the title of the report was overlapping the logo.  This has been fixed.
DEFERRED ISSUES: Here is a running list of issues that we may decide to delay addressing until later because they are not mission critical so to speak.
  1. No View menu.  - Not required for App Store submission.  Don't think we need it.
  2. PRO only: On File open or new, the functionality to view, or load picture of client is not working.
  3. When either of the Investments, Cash Infusions and Special Expenses tabs are selected and then expanded (click on green + button), the list of 25 items should expand proportionately in relation to the other elements on the particular tab. I.e. the list of 25 is too small and is hard to read when the tab is expanded on a 27" iMac. (Jeff Skaare)
  4. Most recently used files in Windows should be "Open Recent..." on Mac and at different location on File menu.
  5. PRO: Tools menu items need to be finished coding and printing.

EARLIER FIXED ISSUES: Here are the items from last version that are FIXED in this version:

  1. Special Expenses set to Any Available tax type were sometimes being calculated as "Tax-Deferred Only".  This caused Income from Principal to be exaggerated in some client files.
  2. Savings Graph was showing Year: 0 and Age: 0 on the first bar instead of the correct values.
  3. Some Cash Infusions were not showing on the Retirement Income Graph properly.  This has been thoroughly tested and fixed.
  4. If you entered detailed Investments and hit Add to Plan, calculations were correct, but next time you open the program the Investment totals were sometimes off, due to a bug in the way the investments were loaded.  Opening Investments screen and hitting Add to Plan would remedy the problem.
  5. Retirement Income Graph had some issues related to "End Illustration at Age" value.  Sometimes the last bar would match this age and sometimes it would not.  This has been thoroughly tested and fixed.
  6. Social Security Taxation Percentage was not being calculated correctly in some instances.  This is now fixed.
  7. Setting Tax Deferred Distributions to "Don't allow Pre-59 1/2 distributions" vs. "Allow them" was showing some unusual results due to the calculation of what year that no penalties would occur.  This is now fixed.
  8. PRO: Special Expenses with "Before it Starts Inflation" values were sometimes calculated incorrectly, due to the number of years tied to the age not being correct.
  9. Print Current Window has now been coded to work.  Previously there was no code for this function, so nothing would happen.
  10. Issues with the Printed Report: p. 4. Not quite sure what the chart is but I used 8% increases in the investment accounts but the chart is showing the base estimate at 6.68% , 4.89%. (Peter Cacioppo)
  11. Issues with the Printed Report: p.8 The Retirement Income Graph is stuck showing the same age for both client and spouse on the area next to the year even though they are different ages.
  12. p. 12 The paragraph on Taxes prints sort of: it gets to the word should and then there is the letter n and the two lines of blank space and then the letter g and then correct words ending with the word situation. (Peter Cacioppo)
  13. Couples edition: Saw one case where you edit investments on Investments screen... add to plan... exit program... re-open program and values on some investment lines were different... and not the "number that was there before the change" but seemingly random numbers.   (John Lehotsky)
